HRPC and its members are grateful to the entire Highlands Ranch Library staff for their contributions, assistance, and support.

The evening will be a fun “ask the photographer” session with Jordan
McCullough on topics including wedding coverage, architecture imagery, and
abstraction techniques. Be sure to think over these topics and bring your
questions!

If over the recent holidays you’ve had time to play with this month’s photo
assignment, please bring your best images for “Abstraction & Patterns” for a
fun group evaluation of imagery, best approaches to using photography as an
abstract art form, and how concepts can be communicated through shape and
color.

In order to get a solid count of submissions, I need everyone who wishes to have their photography featured in the library email me confirmation. This will allow me to get a final count for the number of contributions each member can make.

Please email the following information if you wish to have your photography included in the January showcase. This will allow me to get in touch before and after the showcase and ensure all photography is hung, as well as picked up. Additionally, if you have a theme in mind for your images, please include that, as we may include the club members’ imagery in various clusters throughout the library walls.

Photographic Insights on Landscape and Nature with Jim Bennett
With Jim’s imagery featured throughout the library during the month of September, he will be sharing his insights on the photographic process and the techniques employed to produce his photography style.

Digital Manipulation and Compositing with Joe Bonita
Stepping beyond the basics of out-of-camera imagery, Joe will share his tips and techniques to digital manipulating, altering, and compositing multiple images to produce artistic expression through photographs.

Everyone on the mailing list should have received an invitation to join the Flickr Photo Group. If you did not, or would like to join and are not on the mailing list, please let us know and we’ll send out your invitation.

For anyone who participated in August’s “Silhouette” assignment, you are welcome to post your photo to the group.

Subject matter can be literal or abstract, as long as there is a sense of movement and energy.

Tips for capturing and conveying movement:

• Object that moves  (without involvement from the photographer is easiest!)
• Longer exposure (1/10 second to anything longer is a great start)
• Objects with strong lighting contrasts (vehicle lights at night, fire in dark surroundings, etc.)

Some starting ideas for the concept:

• Vehicles on a road. Long exposures in low light yield exceptional results.
• Painting with light. For example, still-life settings lit with a flashlight (or two) on a moving object.
• Foliage/plants blowing in the wind. Grasses and wheat-like plants work great.
