Answers to some of the most 'Frequently Asked Questions' about the club

Q: How do you join the club and are there any dues?

A: Our club is very informal and you "join" simply by attending meetings whenever you can. If you are a regular attender, we ask you to donate $10 each year to help defray costs such as printing and website hosting.

Q: Is this club only for film or digital photographers?

A: Our club has members with eclectic interests including film and digital cameras; black & white and color; 35mm, medium and large format; wet and digital darkroom.

Q: Do you have contests and competitions?

A: No. One of the things that makes our club different from the many other camera clubs in the Denver area is that we do not believe contests and competitions encourage photographers to grow in their skills and artistic vision. Art, like beauty, lies in the eye of the beholder. On the other hand, we often have "assignments" to encourage members to try new techniques, or to photograph subjects and themes they have never tried before. There is no "winning" or "losing" in these assignments which frees the photographer to be bold and creative.

Q: What is a typical meeting like?

A: Often we have guest speakers from outside the club, but our members also make presentations themselves. A slide projector is available for club members' use should they need one for their presentations. When we have speakers, we try to allow time for members to display their photographs either to share their best images with us, or to get constructive comments.

Q: Do you go on field trips or have workshops?

A: We schedule field trips based on members' interest and ability to attend. There are no costs for field trips or workshops except for your own travel and dining expenses. Our autumn field trip has always been great fun, but we are always thinking about other opportunities for field trips. Any member can plan or sponsor a field trip.

Q: Is this an appropriate club for beginner or novice photographers?

A: Absolutely! Although our club consists of amateur photographers, members range from very accomplished to just starting out and every type in between. A very important objective from the day the Highlands Ranch Photography Club was started is to provide an atmosphere for photographers to learn and grow in their skills and vision.
