Highlands Ranch Photo Club Meeting

Debbie welcomed everyone to the meeting. She noted that the May meeting will be May 20, the third Tuesday due to a scheduling conflict at the library. Most meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of the month. This month our program is a "show-and-tell" by club members. Several guests introduced themselves. Anyone is welcome to attend, and if they decide to come regularly they can pay annual dues of $15 and become members.
We were reminded that the Lone Tree Photo Contest and Sale is now ongoing at the Lone Tree Golf Club and Hotel. Several club members' photos were accepted into the juried show.
Show and Tell
Jim brought photos from Lake Chatfield of a sunrise. He also brought various photos showing balloons being inflated. He used a polarizing filter to pop the colors.
Nancy brought photos from England showing architectural details, a self-portrait, and landscapes.
Joyce brought photos of Tallahassee including birds (anhinga and ibis), turtles, an alligator, and a Florida panther. She also showed an orchid photo which was accepted into the Lone Tree Photo Contest.
Scott brought macro photos of flowers, Rocky Mountain National Park, and other outdoor photos. He also showed outdoor portrait photos using fill flash. He recommended books by Photoshop guru Scott Kelby.
Deb recommended a free photo manipulation program called Gimp. It can be downloaded from gimp.org. She showed nature photos including backlit poppies and cactus from Tucson, a great horned owl at Wadsworth Park, and ptarmigan on Vail Pass. She recommended a Web site called www.desertusa.com where they track wild flower displays.
Additional Notes and Upcoming Meetings
May's topic will be Adobe Light Room, a photo manipulation program. Note that the date will be May 20, a different date than usual. The presenter will be coming from the Adobe company.
June's presenter will be Donald Mammoser, a nature photographer. He has shot photos for National Geographic and other magazines. His Web site is http://www.donmammoserphoto.com/donmammoserphoto.com/Home.html
