Botswana Safari
Featuring Chauncey and Sandy Walden
Chauncey and Sandy Walden have fallen in love with Africa, so much so that they have gone there every two years for the past twelve years. Chauncey began the presentation by showing us the geography of southern Africa. Then Sandy talked about the type of safara they prefer -- a mobile safari.
With the mobile safari, a tour team takes the group around to different places. The travelers sleep in moveable tents with laundry, showers, food and all necessities supplied for them.
Chauncey and Sandy enjoy visiting Botswana especially because the areas they visit are unfenced, so they see animals in a very natural state. They prefer to go in August which is wintertime for southern Africa. It might drop below freezing at night, but daytime temperatures are in the 70s and 80s.
Club members were treated to a fantastic tour of the Botswana animal kingdom. Chauncey and Sandy brought photos of many animals, including elephants, hippos, cape buffaloes, crocodiles, baoons, lions, zebras, antelopes and many different birds. The Waldens explained that many times they were able to get especially close to animals while in a boat.
In addition to birds and animals, the photos also showed the massive baobab trees and scarlet sunsets. It left many in the audience wanting to visit the beautiful places we saw on the photographic tour.
Chauncey and Sandy advised that while Botswana is more expensive than some African photo and art safari tours, they felt it was the best value for the dollar. They especially like Botswana because it is unfenced. South Africa is also a beautiful country to visit and costs less, but the animals there are fenced.
We thank the Waldens very much for their fascinating photographic trip to Botswana.
