Highlands Ranch Photo Club Meeting
July 8, 2008
Debbie welcomed everyone to the meeting. She noted that the August meeting will moved to a different date because of a scheduling conflict. The August meeting will be held August 5 at the Highlands Ranch Library. Our photo club meetings are usually held the 2nd Tuesday of the month at the Highlands Ranch Library.
We discussed various ways to spread the word about our club meetings. Debbie will have some cards printed up and welcomed any other ideas.
Show-and-Tell
By Club Members
This month's meeting was devoted to photographs shared by club members. A wide variety of images was shown and enjoyed by those present.
Bill brought a photo of an eagle from Chatfield. He also brought fireworks photos which he timed at four seconds using a remote. He had pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and some photos from Yosemite. He brought several photos from the Denver Botanic Gardens. He noted that there are some early openings and evening sessions for Botanic Garden members.
Chuck shared a number of pictures from a trip to Italy, focusing on architectural details and "painterly" adjustments. He had more photos of architectural interest from Santa Fe and Yellowstone.
Jim brought nature photographs, including flowers, a hummingbird and butterflies. He also had a lightning shot from Daniels Park and several panoramas of Roxborough.
Nancy brought poppy pictures from Taos, New Mexico. She had manipulated two of the photos using PaintShopPro to change saturation levels, add brushstrokes and combine color with black and white.
Doug brought some photos showing Trinity Church (an old church) reflected in the windows of an all-glass, modern building. He also had close-up photos of a bird feeding grasshoppers to its young. He combined many fireworks shots into one shot. His technique was to shoot a picture with his lens cap on to use as the background. He then copied the individual fireworks onto the black background.
Charlie had photos from France showing the American cemetary at Normandy, Monet's pond and a large old building reflected in a pond. From India he had camels, morning on the Ganges and interesting street shots showing local people. He also brought pictures from New Brunswick and Massachusetts.
Walt had pictures from Crested Butte showing flowers, mountain reflection and a lovely shot with storm clouds and a rainbow.
Rick shared travel photos showing Armenian handpainted eggs, shops, pastry and fresh peppers in all colors. He also showed the Rocky Mountains from an airplane and several shots from Yellowstone.
George enjoys taking adventure shots from trips. He brought one of a moose shot from a canoe and another early morning shot from a backpacking trip to Rocky Mountain National Park. He also showed a three-minute exposure of the Milky Way which he shot using a homemade device which keeps the camera moving to match the rotation of the earth.
Thank you to all who shared their interesting and individual photos.
