Highlands Ranch Photo Club Meeting of December 12, 2006

December Meeting -- Holiday Party and Show-and-Tell

DeDe welcomed everyone to the meeting. There was a discussion of club dues and how they are spent. Club members voted to use leftover money from 2006 and extra money from 2007 to purchase a digital projector to use at club meetings. Dues for 2007 will be $10, but members are asked to contribute $15 for a projector fund in addition to the dues. Dale volunteered to investigate the cost of projectors and report at the next meeting.

The Highlands Ranch library will publicize our meetings if we notify them by the 10th of the month. Deb volunteered to take that responsibility.

DeDe asked for suggestions for presentations for 2007 meetings. One possibility would be to invite representatives from camera stores in the area.

Richard and DeDe have been co-chairs, but asked if anyone else would like to take a turn at being one of the co-chairs. Anyone interested should contact one of them.

A field trip to take night photography in downtown Denver is scheduled for Friday night, December 22. Anyone interested is to meet at the Mineral light rail station at 6 p.m. Tickets cost $5.75 for a round trip. Everyone was reminded to bring a tripod and gloves. We will ride the light rail to Union Station, then take the 16th Street shuttle to Civic Park. Street traffic will be blocked off on this evening to allow photography of the holiday lighting at government offices downtown.

Dale Duxbury presented information about a Lonetree photography show which is open to anyone. The show will be held from April 15 to May 5, 2007. This will be a juried show, with a $25 entry fee. Selected photographs will be hung and entered into the competition.

Several members brought photos to share during a show-and-tell session. We also brought snacks to share.

  • Deb brought photos of aspen leaves in the forest.
  • Mark brought night photos from downtown Denver and Seven Springs in Colorado Springs.
  • Richard showed several photos from the year including pinhole, reflection, his cat and snow carving at Breckenridge.
  • Craig brought favorite photos from the year including children; a wedding; monuments in Washington, D.C.; and wildlife.
  • DeDe brought photos from San Francisco, Hudson Gardens, flowers at the Great Sand Dunes National Park, Washington State, the Denver Botanic Gardens and flowers from her garden.
  • Rodrigo showed photos including several of a flag reflected in drops of water and night shots of Denver.

Notes for the Next Meeting:

For January 9, 2007, our speaker will be Steve Friedman. He displayed photographs in the Highlands Ranch library last year. His topic will be digital fine art photography.

Several other months are scheduled as well. Rita and Charlie Summers from Wild Images will make a presentation at the March 2007 meeting. Their specialty is photographing wild horses. April's meeting will be show-and-tell.
